DEFESA AZUL - Expedition Cape Cod: Tagging Mary Lee

We are proud to present for the first time the tagging of Mary Lee! In 2012 after weeks of grinding on the water the OCEARCH crew finally spots a white shark behind the boat. 3-years later Mary Lee is the most popular shark in the world.

Mary Lee is a 16 ft 3,456 lb Atlantic white shark that was satellite tagged on September 17 2012 off Cape Cod, Massachusetts. She has traveled over 22,000 miles since then. Mary Lee was named after OCEARCH expedition leader Chris Fischer's mother.

“My parents have done so much. I was waiting and waiting for a special shark to name after her and this is truly the most historic and legendary fish I have ever been a part of and it set the tone for Cape Cod,“ says Chris.
